Meet the Principal
Dr. Sherry Johnson was named the principal of Houston County Career Academy (HCCA) during the Houston County Board of Education meeting held June 14, 2022. Dr. Johnson most recently served as the Assistant Principal/CTAE Advisor at Veterans High School since 2011. She will began her new role July 1.
Dr. Johnson is a native of Quitman, Mississippi. She received her bachelor's degree in Business and Office Education from the University of West Alabama (formerly Livingston University). She holds a master's degree in Instructional Technology from Georgia College and State University, a specialist degree in School Administration and Leadership, and a doctorate in Curriculum and Leadership from Columbus State University.
“I am truly honored and humbled to be recommended by Dr. Scott and approved by the Board to be named principal of the Houston County Career Academy,” said Dr. Johnson. “I am excited to continue the great work that is taking place at HCCA. Our community partners help to extend HCCA’s reach outside of our four walls, and together, we are preparing tomorrow’s workforce today.”
In 1990, Dr. Johnson began her teaching career at Jackson Middle School in Jackson, South Carolina. In 1993, she moved to Georgia and taught Keyboarding and Exploratory courses at Dooly County Middle School. For eleven years, she taught Business Education at Perry High School, where she served as Lead FBLA Adviser and department chair. During her years at Perry High, she served as region FBLA adviser to several region officers, State FBLA Adviser to four state officers, including the 2007-2008 State FBLA President, as well as adviser to region, state, and national winners. She also served as the 2010- 2011 Perry High Teacher of the Year, 2010 Georgia Business Education Association Teacher of the Year, and 2011 Southern Business Education Association Secondary Teacher of the Year. Dr. Johnson has two children, Trevor and Jaylon.
